General System

The most common check a protagonist will make is on 2d10 (two ten-sided dice added together), adding any relevant skill and attribute bonus.
Usually they will be rolling against these challenge thresholds as assigned by the GM:
-
6 to pass a Trivial test
-
11 to pass a Challenging test
-
16 to pass a Difficult test
-
21 to pass an Heroic test
A natural 2 is not adjusted upwards and is always a catastrophic failure. Other low natural rolls may be treated in the same way on occasion. A natural 20 is usually treated as an heroic success even if after modification it does not reach the Heroic threshold. There may be tests beyond Heroic.
If a protagonist has no relevant skill the roll is subject to a penalty or an increased challenge threshold at the GM’s discretion. Some tasks may not be attempted at all without a relevant skill.

Other common rolls include:
-
D100 die matching - usually for situations where success or failure is not evident to the protagonist
-
Multiple d10s under an Attribute - usually for situations where the Attribute is more important than the Skill.
